Provided the telecommunications engineering services for the addition of a new 261,000 SF addition to the existing Fort Worth Convention Center. The new facility includes a 57,000 SF Exhibition Hall, meeting rooms, a ballroom, pre-function areas, lobby areas and offices. The design services included the design and specification for a new telecommunications cable infrastructure. The infrastructure included enhanced UTP cabling, multimode and singlemode fiber optic cabling. Also included were new IDF and a MDF Room. The new MDF Room was built to replace the old existing main telephone room. The design included new local area network equipment and well as a new telephone switch. Wireless technology was a possible design option for the exhibition space. This project was followed by a second phase consisting of a new 80,000 s.f. addition. The new addition included a high-technology meeting room, standard meeting rooms, pre-function areas, lobby areas and office spaces. The telecommunication services included both passive cable infrastructure as well as active switching components. The new switching components will provide standard 100Base-T to the desktop, Gigabit backbone to the existing head end, with expansion capabilities to incorporate Voice-over-IP protocol.
