Provided telecommunication engineering services for a large complex consisting of three buildings. The first building, which housed the campus MDF Room, was the courthouse building. It is 180,000 square feet and consists of court rooms, holding facilities, administration areas, judges quarters, libraries, break rooms and support spaces. The second building was a maximum security jail building. It is a 280,000 square foot facility with prisoner pods and cells, video visitation systems, guard stations, public visiting areas, administrative areas, laundry and kitchen and supporting spaces. The third facility is a law enforcement facility. It is 70,000 square foot and will be shared with the Galveston Police Department and the Sheriff’s department. This facility includes an emergency response command center for each group, administrative areas, holding cells, interrogation rooms, 911 center and supporting spaces. The structured cabling system and network electronics for the entire complex was designed in this scope. The backbone cables consisted of 50 micron multimode fiber optics and multiconductor copper. The horizontal cables were Cat 6. The electronics provided a gigaspeed backbone with 100Base-T to the desktop. The system was Voice-over-IP ready. The new networks provided an interface to the existing WAN.
